Governance of the College
Matters relating to regulations, procedures, policies and requirements for students, faculty and academics in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences are considered and acted upon by the College Assembly, the College Academic Council and five standing committees. Here you will find more information on the organization, responsibilities and memberships of these various governing bodies.
Executive Governing Bodies
College Assembly
The chief governing body of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. Membership comprises all tenured and tenure-track faculty in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, plus emeritus faculty and elected undergraduate and graduate students.
College Academic Council (CAC)
Acts on behalf of the College Assembly on matters of curriculum, degrees and policy. Membership comprises elected faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and representatives of departmental chairs, program directors and unclassified staff.
Standing Committees of the College Assembly
Membership on the Standing Committees is determined by faculty and student elections during the spring of each year.
Committee on Undergraduate Studies and Advising (CUSA)
Reviews and makes recommendations to CAC on issues of undergraduate educational policy (degrees, majors, etc.) and advising. Membership comprises elected faculty and students.
Committee on Graduate Studies (CGS)
Reviews and makes recommendations to CAC on issues of graduate educational policy (degree requirements, student petitions, etc.). Membership comprises elected faculty and students.
