Master's Hooding Ceremony

All master's degree students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who are candidates for graduation are invited to participate in the Master's Hooding Ceremony at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday May 13, 2012, at the Lied Center. This ceremony is a great way for you and your family and friends to recognize your academic achievement. Tickets are required for this event; seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Any master's degree student who will graduate this spring, summer or fall or graduated in the previous fall or summer is welcome to participate in the Master's Hooding Ceremony.

If you wish to participate in the Master's Hooding Ceremony, here are the steps you need to complete:

  1. Complete the registration form (coming soon). The form responses will be used to:
    • Ensure the correct spelling of your name and correct listing of your degree in the program.
    • Provide the College with post-graduation contact information. We may need to contact you after graduation, and graduates who participate in the ceremony will also be mailed proofs of professional photographs taken at the ceremony. Graduates are under no obligation to purchase these photos.
    • Coordinate which faculty member will hood you.
  2. Purchase regalia (cap, gown, tassel and hood) for the ceremony.
    • For purchasing information, visit the KU Bookstore on level two of the Kansas Union, or visit the graduation regalia section of the KU Bookstore Web site. We recommend ordering these items as soon as possible, no later than May 1. Sizes become more limited as commencement approaches.
  3. Choose a faculty mentor or advisor to hood you.
    • You should personally contact your faculty advisor/mentor and ask him or her to be present at the ceremony to hood you.
    • If your faculty mentor or advisor cannot be present, you may choose another professor, or we can ask an associate dean to hood you.
